“Aa a committee, we do more than just plan public activities. We continue, for example, to monitor buildings and sites which we believe are threatened in any way and channel reports to the heritage authority, Boshwa, when appropriate.”

These were the words of David Morris in his chairperson’s report at the annual general meeting of the Kimberley Historical Society.

In his report, Morris stated that the society will be photographing certain sites as a way of keeping records. The Honoured Dead Memorial has already been photographed in detail to “establish baseline documentation of any cracks that may or may not be worsening”.

The society has during the year, on three occasions reviewed three tourist publications for accuracy.

The society’s own publication Now and Then continues to be popular and is internationally mailed. Through the year the society hosted various outings and talks which were very successful.

The financial statements were presented by Sunet Swanepoel and were found to be sound.

Morris also thanked the committee for their commitment and hard work.
