Johannesburg - Opposition parties will never defeat the ANC, youth league leader Julius Malema told the party rally in Johannesburg on Sunday.
He was addressing thousands of African National Congress supporters at the Coca-Cola Park stadium in Johannesburg.
"We'll never sell out the legacy of Nelson Mandela. We must make sure that the ANC gets more than the two-third majority. You (opposition parties) will never defeat the ANC," Malema said to cheers from the crowd.
Sharing Malema's sentiments was ANC Women's League president Angie Motshekga who vowed that the women of South Africa would never abandon the ANC.
The party's alliance partners, the SA National Civic Organisation, Congress of SA Trade Unions and the SA Communist Party, also pledged their continued support for the party.
Head of elections Fikile Mbalula told supporters at the nearby Johannesburg stadium not to force their way into the Coca-Cola Park stadium as it was already filled to capacity.
A pre-recorded message from former president Nelson Mandela was to be played before ANC president Jacob Zuma addressed the crowd.
The thousands of ANC supporters who filled the 61 000 capacity stadium had earlier erupted in cheers when Mandela was driven into the stadium.
Also present at the rally was the party's national executive member Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, President Kgalema Motlanthe, Deputy President Baleka Mbete and Finance Minister Trevor Manuel.
